British Red Cross - Buckinghamshire Voluntary Aid Detachment
This month's object is a recently acquired set of badges and flashes donated to Buckingham Old Gaol from the recently closed Balfour Museum of Red Cross History in Hampshire.
The badges are believed to have belonged to a Mrs P Elmer, and include Buckingham specific badges, a Buckinghamshire Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) pin and various Red Cross badges and flashes.
The Old Gaol would like to find out more about the VAD in Buckingham and if anyone can tell the museum anything about Mrs Elmer. One particular intriguing item is a set of two dog tags attached to a 1945 Indian coin and we wonder if she served the VAD in Buckingham and also travelled overseas during or after World War II as part of her Red Cross service.
